Yorkshire Terriers aka Yorkies were created for killing rats and mice in the factories in the 1800’s. The Yorkie is a small toy dog breed that is native to Yorkshire, England. Generally, they have long, silky hair that is hypoallergic. Yorkies are very affectionate and are great for companionship. Most traditional Yorkies are black and tan. But there are more exotic, colorful Yorkies bred for the recessive genes such as Parti, Piebald or Flash DNA gene that can produce white. Some yorkies carry chocolate which can produce dark brown or very light with blonde.
Yorkies, despite their small statue make excellent guard dogs. They tend to be very vocal, protective, and loyal. Yorkies make wonderful pets for a large family or a single individual, who enjoy snuggling, sitting in laps, hence, they are great lap dogs and enjoy being pampered.
